Welcome
The Faculty of Arts represents diverse fields of study in the Social Sciences and Humanities, Design, Fashion, Music and Languages respectively.
Many of the Humanities disciplines address the curricular needs of the South African primary and secondary education system. These courses also equip students with the broad interpretive framework necessary to address the complex social and ethical challenges facing South African society.
The Language departments cooperate to present courses in translation studies, the training of interpreters, literary theory and linguistics, intercultural communication, and the analysis of contemporary South African literature.
The Social Sciences equip students with the social-scientific skills to pursue careers in a variety of fields and graduates are found in the public sector, government, human resource management, community development and conflict resolution.
The Faculty's School for Advanced Studies is an "umbrella" body facilitating the presentation of interdisciplinary postgraduate programmes, and promoting innovative, topical research.
